SITEnetwork have captured a 240 year old
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 3D to make it globally available online.
With an XGRIDS scanner and the support of the venue's amazing team of staff, one of our directors
David W. Sime arrived at the crack of dawn to carry out the scan in person.
The venue?
New Lanark - a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Scotland, famous for its well-preserved 18th-century cotton mills and as a pioneering model of industrial community and social reform.
New Lanark is a scenic riverside heritage site where you can explore historic mill buildings, interactive exhibits, restored village homes, and beautiful woodland walks to the Falls of Clyde
But not everyone has the luxury of being able to visit sites like these in person - whether for financial reasons, time, mobility or geopolitics, the knowledge and beauty such locations hold is barred to many.
SITE Network's mission is to capture, preserve and make accessible locations like these through virtual reality 3D models that can be accessed on your phone, computer or VR headset as easily as streaming a TV show.
Interestingly this actually INCREASES the number of physical visits, so it's a win-win for both visitors and venues.
And by connecting these venues together, people can plan and curate their own visits (whether physical or virtual) beforehand, according to what aspects are most interesting to them.
Watch this space for the 3D model!
And let us know where in the world you would like us to scan next!
