SITEnetwork and ASVA Join Forces
to Bring Scottish Attractions to Life in Virtual Reality
04/02/2025
SITEnetwork, a pioneering Scottish virtual tourism organisation, is delighted to announce a new collaboration with ASVA (The Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions) to offer ASVA members a unique opportunity to enhance their visibility and visitor engagement—completely free of charge.
With ASVA’s backing, SITEnetwork will be launching a nationwide 3D scanning tour this February and March, capturing a wide range of iconic and underrepresented visitor attractions across Scotland. Using cutting-edge photogrammetry and XR technology, these scans will be transformed into fully immersive, explorable digital twins—allowing attractions to be visited virtually from anywhere in the world, on any device.
The aim is to democratise access to Scotland’s cultural, natural and historic sites, allowing global audiences to explore virtually before they arrive. Whether limited by mobility, budget or international borders, users can now experience what makes Scotland special through a compelling “Try Before You Fly” approach to tourism. Research has shown this kind of interactive virtual access doesn’t reduce interest in physical visits—in fact, it increases it. On average, destinations presented in this way experience up to 40% more physical footfall compared to those promoted using traditional marketing techniques.
As part of this initiative, SITEnetwork is offering ASVA members free participation, which includes:
🔹 Professional 3D scanning of your location during February and March
🔹 A VR-ready digital twin of your site, accessible globally
🔹 Options to embed AI-powered historical characters to tell your story in new, engaging ways
🔹 eCommerce integration to allow direct booking or merchandise sales
🔹 A training workshop to help your team make the most of the technology
🔹 Inclusion in a platform already engaging 1,000+ free users and over 100 paid subscribers
This opportunity is particularly focused on sites located in Edinburgh and East Lothian, Dundee, Perth & Angus, and Glasgow & Argyll, though interest from other areas is also welcomed. The ambition is to highlight both major and lesser-known attractions—balancing interest between popular hotspots and hidden gems, and supporting efforts to tackle both over-tourism and under-tourism.
At the heart of SITEnetwork’s mission is the belief that the best people to tell a place’s story are the people who live there. This initiative not only provides high-tech representation of your venue, but also gives local teams the tools to shape their digital presence and contribute to a growing global network of explorable destinations.
Scotland has a real opportunity to lead the way in virtual travel, and with ASVA’s help, SITEnetwork hopes to make this opportunity accessible to as many attractions as possible.
